Welcome to Tuta!

Introduction

Email. Can't live with it, can't live without it.

Your email address is often your primary means of identity on the internet so you had better trust whoever is hosting your email to have your best interests at heart.

Tuta's approach to privacy is uncompromising, and thoroughly audited thanks to the open-source nature of project. Despite an overarching emphasis on securing your inbox from prying eyes, Tuta still offers a fast, modern, and capable email experience at a pricepoint you can't beat (free).

What is Tuta?

Tuta is an end-to-end encrypted and open source email service. Tuta offers a small suite of secure and private productivity applications:

Tuta runs directly in your browser, but standalone apps for Android, iOS, and desktop are available too.

Who is behind Tuta?

Tuta is developed and maintained by the German company Tutao GmbH with a team of a couple dozen. Tutao GmbH formed in 2011 and started developing Tutanota (later rebranded to simply 'Tuta') as a secure email service.

Tuta operates as a "freemium" business model with paid plans for additional storage and features starting at €3/month. Tuta also offers business plans for larger teams or organizations.

How can I get started with Tuta?

Before registering a free account, I recommend you have the following:

After procuring the above, proceed to:

  1. Navigate to Tuta's Sign up page.
  2. Select the free plan to start (you can upgrade later).
  3. Enter a new email address and password (keep these stored safely).
  4. Tuta will give you a recovery code in case you forget your password. Write this down and store it safely.
  5. Familizarize yourself with your new inbox.

Where can I learn more about Tuta?

Tuta maintains support articles on their website, a subreddit for Tutanota, and the Tuta github.
